We are more than ever convinced that the way to go in beginner horns is just for forget about them altogether. Beginner horns are hobbled horns, lacking in features compared to their higher-priced kin, lacking in intonation and power. Give a kid a tenor and he'll be looking for a way to play Night Train, right? Those low B flats ought to be there somewhere for him! Why saddle the beginner to a featureless, voiceless instrument when you can grant him or her entry into the musical world? Hand a newcomer a horn capable of playing a gig and that newcomer will one day be playing gigs. Hand your newcomer a Chateau!

A whole new saxophone with the most modern keywork, ever. Steve started the design process for the Goodson Model alto and tenor saxophones by asking a simple question: “What can we do to make saxophones easier to play?” After making a list of problem areas, we built features to resolve each in turn. The result is an instrument with features found on no other saxophone ever produced. Professional players and advancing students alike will appreciate the the Steve Goodson Model’s ease of playing. This instrument quite simply does more and does it easier than any saxophone ever made! A quick play test is all you’ll need to see that this is no ordinary saxophone! After over four years spent on its development, we’re proud of the results. The Steve Goodson Model combines unmatched intonation and response with an effortless extended range.

What if cost were no object and innovation the only goal? What would changed? The answer is everything. The old-line manufacturers are no longer the sources of innovation they once were. They trumpet instead their skill at assembling their just-as-good-as-the-fifties current models, as if we were all still aching to drive Ford Cortinas.Who then will innovate? Meet Steve Goodson, designer of saxophones. His starting point: Imagining himself at the end of the Mark VI production run nearly 35 years ago, and asked a simple question: "Where does it go from here?" We already know where it went, which is not altogether the right way, Steve reasoned. But what if the sciences of acoustics and metallurgy were called upon to determine the progeny of the last Mark VI? As the saxophone continues to evolve, players’ needs and expectations change. Today’s music is more demanding, with a higher level of technical and aesthetic sophistication demanded from those who play it. Yet, so many saxophonists choose the instrument of yesterday! Now advances in design and manufacture make it possible to finally eclipse that legendary saxophone: the Saxgourmet Line. Our goal is to take yesterday’s model and, using the sciences, to design and build the finest saxophones possible, regardless of cost. No corners are cut, no compromises are allowed for merely cutting manufacturing costs or easing manufacture.
No other saxophone available today offers the same degree of key fit, finish, and features. None uses the same degree of hand work by master craftsmen. None has the extent of hand engraving as the Saxgourmet. None projects as much visual beauty as the high-copper brass with genuine abalone key touches as the Saxgourmet. Saxgourmet saxophones are now available in alto, tenor, and a unique Saxello-style soprano with solid Sterling silver bell and necks.
